"Once upon a time..."
Photography and me:
I have been photographing the world around me for decades and the camera has been a constant companion through good times and bad, from child to adulthood, through sickness and health. It has allowed me to communicate to the world when words have failed me. There is more to my story that I may share at some point, but for now it is simplest to say that I see myself as a photographic storyteller, fact or fiction, truth and fantasy, with the natural landscape as my stage.

My practice:
I believe there is no wrong or right way to photograph the natural world, there is only our own way. This collection is my way. I don't follow the latest trends, I don't post to 'feeds' to gain followers, you'll either connect with my imagery or you won't - and that's OK. What I can promise you is that every scene is real. Nothing is added or removed to improve the aesthetic. Generative AI has no place in my practice. Only the hue, saturation and luminosity of the light I capture with my camera, is subtly revised to portray my view, emotion and story of the time and place presented.

Reading images:
Each image tells a story. As a starting point, look at each image and notice what catches your eye first, allow your eye to wander where it will, resting on items of interest and ask yourself from time to time how you feel, what other images or thoughts are conjured in your mind, are you reminded of anything, what do these items mean to you?

As a written story can contain illustrations, so do most of my images. Words are my method of illustration and add additional information where needed to help with the narrative. Use them to guide you, to understand my perspective, but remember that they do not tell the story, the imagery does.
Sometimes the imagery will speak to you, and sometimes it won't - that's OK but try to move past the simple thoughts of 'that's nice' or 'I don't like that', and ask yourself why you feel that way, what made you think that? The longer you spend with a still image, the more you will see, the more you will understand, and the deeper the story will get.
This is the beauty of photographs. They have so much more to say if we can only find the time to look, feel and listen to them.

N.B. When viewing my images, please bear in mind, that my photographs' stories are only complete once they've been committed to print. It is this final step, bringing them into the physical world, that brings the stories to life. All images displayed on this portfolio have been printed and may be available for purchase from time to time.
